Now that the Christmas is behind us I can show you two most recent pieces I was commissioned to do that were meant to be given as Cristmas gifts.
The Castle & the Piper is a papercut piece which I did for the Scottish grandmother of a most adorable and lovely woman, Michelle. She said her grandmother loves pipers, thistles and the Newark Castle, Port Glasgow, is related to King Robert the Bruce and is of the Bruce clan (therefore a particular Bruce tartan paper was needed for the piper), and adores Charles Rennie Mackintosh the famous Scottish architect and designer. So, I needed to incorporate all of these components into a piece. My, that sure was challenging. So, after a longish road of trial and error, and trial and error, I created this piece:
I loved it so much - and sure hoped that my client Michelle would to. And she did - she was thrilled. She promised to send me some photos of the moment grandma opened her special present. Can't wait to see them:). I even created a certificate of authenticity which stated that this piece was created especially for the grandmother and included a poem by a Scottish author.
The second piece is a portrait of a weenie dog Miga. It was commissioned by lovely Ginny as a Christmas present for her dear friend whose beloved dog is getting old and frail. Miga lives in New Orleans and spends her time often in this magical lush garden. I wanted to show the porch and the garden but avoid making the dog appear too small. So I positioned the viewer on the ground, right at Miga's level - almost as the viewer is her playmate, therefore making the portrait very intimate.
So here is Miga...
She touches my heart. Ginny loved the piece, and I hope that her friend loved it too.
I feel very happy and honored that Michelle and Ginny chose me to create these two pieces that made someone feel happy and special. Many thanks to both of them!
