I grew up in the house with wallpapered walls. And even though my mother is quite modern, has good taste and chose the best possible wallpaper she could find in the late seventies early eighties, she didn't have much to choose from. (It was the late 70s early 80s, just imagine the patterns and colors.) Also, the whole process, remembering how messy it was when my mother would do it, the glue, trying to make it all be straight and without bubbles, what a horror.
So the thought of wallpaper has always been quite unappealing to me. But lately I've been noticing some really amazing wallpaper designs, it appears as wallpaper's been having quite a comeback. I was particularly wide-eyed about these handmade designs by Deborah Bowness, that I discovered through this wonderful London store Caravan (they supply all the papers from Deborah's range)...
Genuine Fake Bookshelf - quite fantastic.
Panels, chandeliers and Mirrors
Wallpaper Frocks! This would be hilarious in a walk-in closet.
Shoes and Bags, I'm in love. (And some frames and mirrors on the left.)
She's been designing and handprinting wallpapers for 7 years, developing over this time her unique style of design and the quality of her product.
They are quite something. See more on her website {here}.
Another one I came by are Nama Rococo wallpaper designs. They even have couture and limited edition wallpaper. Who ever heard of such a thing? My mother would go nuts!
Use it to cover your entire wall or display single sheets (wallpaper panels) as artwork. To quote Nama Rococo: "Because we emphasize a fine-art approach to the design and production of our papers, each and every sheet is considered an artwork in itself."
What a great idea.
xoxoxo
Wow, I particularly love the b/w version of the teardrops mixed with the rococo designs.

ooh i love the mirrors and frames one!! i dont generally go for wallpaper, but if i had to, i'd love something like this (http://www.homedepot.ca/wcsstore/HomeDepotCanada/images/catalog/15530.wc1283370_4.jpg) but would probably get tired of it so quickly!
our living room is wallpapered - not our choice, it was that way when we moved in and simply haven't gotten around to restyling the room since then. Luckily it's not the most atrocious pattern ever!! :)
