I love folding screens and would absolutely love to have one in our apartment. I like their aesthetic, but I also like how they create the illusion of privacy and secrecy.
They are pieces of art, often looking better against the wall than a painting.
(And they make a fantastic backdrop for visiting foxes, too.)
They are great concealers of things unappealing, such as dirty laundry baskets.
They can be simple and rustic and bring back memories of warm nights in the Mediterranean.
They are great friends of bedrooms, looking sensual adorned with several pieces of vintage lingerie and a beautiful silk kimono robe...
(or, as a striking backdrop for mysterious divas)
... also convenient in bedrooms if you have something (or someone:) to hide.
They can be so intricately carved that if one looks too closely and for too long one risks getting forever lost inside the labyrinths.
They are great conversation pieces while entertaining... I often run out of things to say.
But most of all, they are true oasis makers (in the living room, perhaps), creating a special reading or thinking space. For times when the only company you crave is your own.
They are truly great, these folding screens, and so beautiful. I need at least one.

thats so funny, i thought about screens the other day - was trying to come up with a place in the house to put one that would justify my actually getting one. no such luck.
that moroccan-looking one (labyrinth) is just gorgeous!!
