What to do this weekend

If I had time this weekend, I would try and create 40s faux bangs following the tutorial below (although I would probably not be very successful considering my bangs are short!)  
I was so astonished watching this tutorial. I never new they used "hair rats" (a form of padding incorporated into hairstyles to give them some oomph, usually made out of one's own hair) to help create those crazy cute big 40s bangs!

Fleur - of the Diary of a Vintage Girl blog fame and  the creator of the tutorial, is my new favorite lady. I love her blog and her tutorials. She's such a doll. The video is about 9 min long, but fun to watch...

Instead I think I will have to spend my weekend in my studio working.

On other news, our house is being painted so there is a lot of construction going on outside. Scraping old paint, sanding, painting, scaffolding, big black nets enveloping our house and keeping the daylight out. Yikes. I think it will be a couple of months before they finish.

 Today the noise was so bad that Terry and I had to drop everything and escape. We didn't really know what to do or where to go, as we didn't plan anything. The weather was a bit too cold for strolling in the Arboretum so we ended up going to the Mission District to a new-ish organic vegan Mexican restaurant Gracias Madre. Vegan Mexican, you ask? Yes, absolutely possible. They even serve their own version of Nacho cheese (I think it's made of almonds.) It was pretty good, not fantastic, but wholesome, satisfying and good. The refried beans were delicious. If you're ever in the neighborhood and in the mood for some Mexican food - I would absolutely recommend it.

Breakfast at Mama's

Do you ever queue to get into a restaurant? Do you ever stand in line for 40 minutes in order to "feast" on some scrambled eggs, french toast, buttermilk pancakes? Well, people at Mama's of North Beach (San Francisco) do. Even as late as 3 p.m., some very eager ones still queue to get their hands on an OK breakfast. Any day of the week. We are baffled.

 

 

Husband and I would not queue even to get into our favorite Vietnamese place Pagolac, even if that means we will never again eat at Pagolac. We are wannabe pleasure seekers and that somehow doesn't go with queuing. Also, we are too cool to queue. What baffles us even more is the fact that Mama's is one of the very few breakfast places in North Beach. There are hundreds of Italian pasta places, and the number is growing as we speak, but nobody thinks of opening another place like Mama's, thinking: Hey, this might be a good successful idea, look at all those people queuing there every day.  

 

 

And also, are you a restaurant worrier? Do you have restaurant anxieties? I do. Are we going to get a good table, is the waiter going to show up immediately, what am I going to order, who should order first, is he going to forget what we've ordered, he's so rude!, he has no manners!, is he going to bring us chopsticks?, god, we have to eat up quickly, there are 25 people all of a sudden waiting to get our table, aaaargh! Well, I'm really not that bad (Yes you are - says husband), I am actually a fabulous dinner companion, and I'll prove it to you. Next time you're in town, let''s all go out for dinner at Pagolac. You'll queue? :D
