I love looking at old photos and people's expressions. What they wore, the hairstyles... trying to imagine what their lives were like. But I especially like candid, unpolished shots which depict the era and the moment so much better. I particularly have the fondness for the 40s, so I was so chuffed to stumble onto these...
These Ladies. All photographed by John Florea in August of 1944, walking down Hollywood and Vine. They look so pretty, strong, confident and happy. They are going places. I love the way they carry themselves. With a purpose.
Singer Marilyn Hall...
Love the pants and the shoes. Love! So Katharine Hepburn... or perhaps Hepburn adopted the style of this young lady?
I would deffinitely go for the shoes, and the skirt, I could live without the blouse. Sunglasses give a great touch to it all. And, I've always been so fascinated with this hairdo. The fringe is half hysterically funny, half to die for. I kind of attempted several times to get this fringe going on my head, but without any success. I thnk my hair is either too fine, or my hairspray is not strong enough!
Window stylist Cecilia Fiala...
She's a bit too conservative for my taste, but I still like how confidently she walks. (I don't like the shoes. I've never liked white shoes.)
Students Joanne Breckenridge and Gloria Jones...
The dreams these girls have... they look so fresh, smart and pretty! And tanned! (There's that paper guy again from the first photo!)
Polished and smart, but too much like my grandmother in her old photos. I'm not so fond of the hairstyle here. (Check out the old lady on the left with a feather in her hat.)
Order Clerk Carolyn Grey, walking down Hollywood and Vine....
Goodness... now there's a woman. The dress, the shoes, the legs! I love it all. And I haven't even mention the hair. And, she seems like she's fun, always ready for a laugh and game for anything. And, kind of shy at the same time. Lovely!
