I've wanted to create an inspiration board for a while now, an area reserved for things that inspire me, so I snatched two old bulletin boards from my husband and hauled them to my studio. I placed them near my desk, so that I could be glancing at them from time to time while I work. I was all set to start pinning. I rummaged through drawers looking for some of my old magazine clippings: the most wonderful embroidered silk faille coat by Oscar de la Renta, Dries Van Noten beautiful hand painted clutch and Chanel's Tricolour Gown from 1939. I included a postcard from our friend Robert in Paris with Picasso's painting of Dora Maar, black and white postcards with photographs by Gene Wright depicting old San Francisco, my Mahakala charm pendant, a fan given to me by Diane on one of my first days in San Francisco, a beautiful old pouch from Nepal, African beeds...
The great thing about inspiration boards is that they can be changed so easily, you can add to them and subtract, they represent your creative mood. And mine at the moment is quite eclectic.
The lower board is reserved for my developing ideas, fabric, paper and ribbon samples and frames I'm considering using for a project. The polka dot shoe is from my shoe collection, above is my papercut Marie Antoinette.
And a To Do List! One can't go far without a to do list (pay attention to the first item on the list - blog every day).
A sunny corner of my desk (Golden Gate Bridge can be seen through that window:), with a shadowbox collage I recently created, called "Weather Permitted" and a statue of Ganesh. As you can see I like to have a lot of things around me.
My $15 chair (quite comfortable!) and my husband's old tennis rackets are leaning against the table.
See you tomorrow!
xoxoxo
so many beautiful things on that board! :)
