Lovely Frieda Kahlo. Every time I see a color photograph of her I get so pleasantly overwhelmed by her appearance.
And that's also how I felt a couple of years ago seeing her paintings at SFMOMA. It's always somehow so surreal to me when I see these famous paintings in person. Paintings I'm so used to seeing in art books. Surreal and wonderful.
There are two exhibits in San Francisco this year which I am so eager to see, and hopefully will see. They are at the de young museum. The first one is "Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay" (featuring works by Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir...) and immediately after it "Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond: Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay." I'm very excited about it.

What are you doing this weekend? I always make great plans, like, repot all the plants, decoupage the refrigerator (see note on the bottom of this post), do a big cleaning, work a lot, read a book, tidy my closet, visit the antique mall and have a brunch at Amber India (great Indian restaurant).
Unfortunately, or luckily, most of the time I end up having long leisurely coffee at a cafe, and maybe I work a little.
This weekend I'm determined to at least repot a couple of plants and at least decoupage the front of the refrigerator. And I'm looking forward to it plenty.
Hope your weekend will be a pleasant one.
xoxoxo
{I was going to decoupage the refrigerator with my lovely paper last weekend (as announced in this post), but realized that I was not going to have enough paper for the whole fridge. And the art-store had none left! And it's such a nice paper. So, I'm going to have to improvise and use maybe a solid purple and green paper for the sides. I hope it looks good!}
Fabulous
I just rewatched the movie last night for the umpteenth time. I've never seen her art in person.. but have a book that contains drawings from her diary.. never tire of it.
Have a great weekend.. I'm just watching the eclipse of the moon here in Aus.. xx Julie

Lovely. Yes, I guessed correctly! Several of her paintings are here at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Plus for many years, I have had one of about 100 (huge) prints they had made of Lola Alvarez Bravo's famous b&w photographs (from the original negative) to celebrate their opening. I was lucky to receive as a gift from the first director of the museum.
My plans have been to paint the kitchen blue (a la Frida) for many years. Ain't happening today: US v. Ghana. Wah. I don't want either to lose. Also very hot here & I'm getting ready to go to beach for couple days early next week...
Tina--a friend helped me take 10 (BIG Ikea) bags worth of clothes, linens, etc. to a Salvation Army near me. And a bunch of house stuff. I feel like I've lost 100 pounds. We're going back there after beach 'cause there's a large curtain/drapery section...searching for turquoise/blue/greens fabric for bedroom curtains. (Guess what I found in all that clearing out? A kimono - from Japan - that can be worn as robe...I can't believe I almost bought a new one...this was from a Japanese friend about 8 years ago. I forgot...oh my).
And about the eclipse...I see Julie wuz here. I took down my bedroom curtains & pulled up the shades. Through the big trees, I could watch the eclipse...stunning.
Looking forward to seeing your fridge project...if anyone can figure out a way 'round the paper problem, it's you.
ciao, Tina (& Julie)
