I'm thinking about starting a collection of old hair combs like this one...
They are very appealing to me aesthetically. So lovely and quite inexpensive, made from either plastic or celluloid.
I think they would look lovely displayed on the wall.

I saw some huge ones made from real tortoise shell at the vintage fashion expo. They were incredibly elaborate and about 10 inch high...
They date from around the late 19th century, early 20th. I sheepishly inquired about the cost (knowing they are for sure out of my price range) but was not prepared for the sum of about $500 to $1000 each. What! The old lady had about 30 of them displayed in glass cases. I beleive they are called Spanish Mantilla Combs. The carvings are pretty impressive!
